Upcoming Meeting Reminder
From Jim Sullivan:
The August meeting of the Humanist Society of Gainesville will be at 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 15, 2012 in the social hall of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 4225 NW 34th Street, on the right just north of 39th Avenue. We will have a presentation by Pierce Butler on “Religion and Evolution” followed by discussion. As most of you know, the general topic of separation of church and state has always been and remains a major area of interest for folks like us. One of the several ways we encounter this is the continuing struggle to keep the science curriculum in our public schools focused on science and not religious dogma.
As usual we will be accepting non-perishable food donations that we will use to support the FOOD4KIDS Backpack program here in Alachua County. We plan to have a representative from this group give us a brief description of what they do at our next meeting.
Hope to see you Wednesday, August 15.
